Grieß scores for Pirmasens against his HSV – an emotional moment!

Last night football fans experienced one of the most exciting duels in the DFB Cup. The captain of the upper league team FK Pirmasens, Yannick Grieß, found himself in a special situation: with a goal against his favorite club, Hamburger SV, he caused an emotional climax. In the 53rd minute of the game he scored a goal that he will remember as “one of the most beautiful moments” of his career. However, his pride was tarnished as the game ended in a 1-2 defeat for Pirmasens after extra time after they were in the lead until the 75th minute, as Sport1 reports.

Grieß, who could hardly contain his thoughts during the game, described the experience as surreal. “I was wondering if this was really real,” he shared his feelings after the game. His team, which had led for a long time, ultimately had to accept the equalizer from Guilherme Ramos in the 90th + 2 minutes and the winning goal from Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer in the 100th minute. The Pirmasens team showed a strong performance, even if it was not rewarded. Player Daniel Paulus summed it up: disappointment and pride were not mutually exclusive.

An emotional evening

For Grieß, the goal against HSV was not only a personal success, but also an achievement that received recognition across the board. He noted afterwards that it was probably better for HSV that Pirmasens didn't take a 2-0 lead. This dynamic development of the game kept the spectators on the edge of their seats until the last minute.

On the same day, Hamburg faced Pirmasens in the first main round of the DFB Cup, just a few days after a friendly against RCD Mallorca that took place on August 9th. This game was broadcast live on the DAZN streaming service, while RCD Mallorca secured a solid 10th place finish in the LaLiga last season. For both teams, the test match served as an important dress rehearsal for the challenges ahead in the new season, according to HSV.

A look forward

Although the cup game ended in defeat for Pirmasens, the team's performance shows that they left a strong impression. The passion of the players and the support of the fans tasted like more. The team is now looking ahead to the upcoming games and is hoping to learn from these experiences and impress again in the league.
