Mysterious masked people in Pirmasens: Police investigate after video!

There is currently cause for concern in the “Auf der Windighöhe” district between Erlenbrunn and Niedersimten. Two masked men were caught on surveillance video sneaking suspiciously through a residential area. The video, which is making the rounds on social media, shows the two wearing tights over their heads and uncharacteristic white clothing. The 20-second clip was recorded around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday evening, but what the two were up to remains unclear. The police suspect that the men may be scouting out properties and houses to plan break-ins, as rheinpfalz.de reports.

The Pirmasens criminal police have already initiated an investigation, and police chief Björn Ephan confirmed that the recordings are being evaluated. However, no suspects have yet been identified. He points out that the situation is atypical for the summer period, as there have been no break-ins or attempted break-ins in the region in recent weeks.

Neighborhood assistance and vigilance

In order to arm themselves against potential perpetrators, the neighbors in Erlenbrunn have come together. Evening walks together are intended to help create a feeling of security and deter potential burglars. Ephan appeals to citizens to be vigilant. “If anyone makes suspicious observations or has videos from surveillance cameras, this should be reported to the police as soon as possible,” said the police officer. Suspicious information can be submitted by calling 0631 36915199 or by email to kipirmasens@polizei.rlp.de.

Concerns about break-ins are not unfounded. According to statistics, the numbers in Germany are increasing. In 2023, around 119,000 residential burglaries were recorded, of which around 77,800 were classified as violent burglaries. While the number of burglaries has fallen significantly since 2015, in 2023 there was the highest level since 2019. Urban areas such as Bremen and Berlin in particular have the highest risk of burglary, while the Bavarian federal states are relatively safe, as Statista explains.

Burglaries in the region

A current case reported by schwaebische.de shows how burglars are also active in the region. On the night of Monday to Tuesday, an unknown person broke into the premises of StreetFood CaSa in Engstlatt. Although the burglary was ultimately unsuccessful - the burglar only found a coffee cash register with 20 euros - this incident shows that the incidents are increasing. The perpetrator was filmed on surveillance cameras, but he turned the camera when he noticed them, making his identification difficult.

Overall, the situation in the region is tense. It remains to be hoped that all citizens will work together to increase security in their residential areas and give burglars no chance. Be vigilant and report anything suspicious!
