Fast-paced chase: Police stop illegal car racing in Mainz!

On Saturday evening, August 9, 2025, a dangerous scenario occurred on the A643 motorway between Wiesbaden and Mainz. Two young men from Mainz organized an illegal car race that brought the police to the scene. A civilian patrol from the special “Speeders/Posers/Tuners” unit of the Wiesbaden police caught the two vehicles, an Audi station wagon and an Audi sedan, while they were driving at high speed. The two drivers accelerated to speeds of around 170 km/h, where only 80 km/h is permitted in this zone, and overtook several times on the right - a dangerous and forbidden maneuver that caused alarm. As reported by SWR, the officers began the pursuit at 8:00 p.m.

The police activated the video system in the emergency vehicle and began the pursuit, which was, however, restricted by the traffic flow. After a few minutes, both drivers had to slow down due to the density of traffic and headed for a parking lot at a supermarket in Mainz-Gonsenheim. The police took action there and took the two 22-year-old men into custody. According to the report from Wiesbaden aktuell, the officers confiscated the men's driver's licenses as well as the vehicles and a cell phone.

Investigations against the speeders

The two men are now facing an investigation into the prohibited motor vehicle racing according to Section 315d of the Criminal Code. This law has recently become an important part of the fight against the increasing number of illegal car races in Germany. According to an article in Spiegel, the police are recording a significant increase in such incidents, which is alarming everyone involved. It's a clear sign that safety on our roads needs to be taken seriously.

The police have also called on the public to call 0611 / 345-4140 to contact witnesses who may have observed the race or dangerous situations. These appeals are important to ensure road safety and to stop further illegal activities.

At a time when speed is often seen as cool, this case is once again a reminder that responsible driving and respect for traffic standards are essential not only legally but also from a safety perspective.
