Politicians in dialogue: Future topics for Cochem-Zell discussed!

In brilliant weather on October 29, 2025, Julian Joswig, the Bundestag member of Alliance 90/The Greens, went on an exciting tour through the Cochem-Zell district with his team. How blick-aktuell.de reported, the main focus of the visit was to present the scenic and cultural highlights of the Moselle region and to seek direct contact with the citizens. As part of the visit, various local meeting points were visited to have informal conversations and discuss current topics.

A highlight of the day was the wine tasting at the Fuhrmann & Sohn winery in Ellenz-Poltersdorf, which was organized by the Cochem-Zell Green District Association. In addition to Joswig, Christian Ott, the Green Party's direct candidate for the upcoming state elections in 2026, was also present. These events were intended as uncomplicated exchange formats without formal speeches, giving citizens the opportunity to speak openly about their concerns.

Important topics in focus

During the discussions, three central topics were on the agenda: the energy and heating transition, improved family policy and the promotion of democracy. It is particularly important to address these issues proactively, particularly in rural regions, where there are often challenges in infrastructure, healthcare and education. More than half of the population in Germany lives in rural areas, which have very different structures and are home to both booming regions and areas with serious deficits in basic services, such as bpb.de emphasized.

The challenges for rural regions are diverse. There are deficits in local public transport and digital infrastructure, while many educational institutes have been closed and leisure activities are increasingly taking a back seat. In this regard, dialogue between politicians and the population is crucial in order to maintain trust in democratic structures and to promote programs that support citizen participation.

Promoting democracy in rural areas

In order to counteract the threatening influx of right-wing populist and extreme right-wing forces, politicians and various foundations, such as the Robert Bosch Foundation, have launched initiatives that encourage civil society engagement and political education. Formats such as “Cohesion through Participation” and “Talking to Each Other” aim to strengthen democratic structures and actively involve people in the political process.

Such commitment is more necessary than ever, especially in regions that are often perceived as idyllic but at the same time problematic. The promotion and support of families in rural areas are essential building blocks for positive development and a living environment in which all generations feel comfortable. New ways must be found in political education work in order to address the special needs of these areas.

In summary, Julian Joswig and Christian Ott's visit was not only an opportunity to experience the beauties of the region, but also to create an important platform for dialogue on critical future issues. It is important to have such discussions and to strengthen the connection with the population in order to work together on solutions.
