Chase on A61: 27-year-old arrested without a driver's license!

On Friday evening there was an exciting chase on Autobahn 61 near Emmelshausen (Rhein-Hunsrück district) that not only kept the driver but also the police in suspense. A 27-year-old man ignored the police stop signs and fled towards Boppard. He turned around in a parking lot just before the junction and drove over the shoulder in the opposite direction, risking not only his own life but also those of other road users. That's what she reports Rhine Palatinate.

The escape didn't last long, because the man turned around again and drove several hundred meters against the direction of travel between the Moselle bridge and the Metternich junction. He finally parked his car on the shoulder and fled on foot into an adjacent field. A police helicopter, which quickly came to help, quickly spotted the fugitive and an attempt to arrest him immediately followed.

Driver on drugs

The subsequent investigation showed that the 27-year-old did not have a valid driver's license and was under the influence of drugs. As the SWR reported, a blood sample was taken and the vehicle was seized. It cannot be overlooked that such dangerous pursuits, as are being recorded more and more frequently in North Rhine-Westphalia, represent a serious problem that is being closely monitored by the security authorities.

The North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of the Interior defines a pursuit as a situation in which the driver or passengers want to be caught by police actions. What is remarkable is that it is not even necessary to stop at a signal beforehand in order to be classified as a pursuit. Such a pursuit can - as in this case - take place without a specific speeding or endangering people, such as WDR determines.

In this context, the police are asking for information from road users who were endangered by the daring maneuver. Because safety on our roads should always be our top priority, and such escape attempts are a significant encroachment on this safety.

Overall, it can be said that car chases represent a serious danger that also leaves the police in a difficult dilemma. While security forces are doing everything they can to ensure safety on the roads, road users must also remain vigilant and consider their own safety.
