Successful swimming project: 108 children conquer the water in Nassau!

The school year is coming to an end and the summer holidays are just around the corner - for the third graders at the Nassau primary school and the Windturbine primary school in Singhofen, this meant a very special highlight in the last few weeks before the holidays: intensive swimming training. Again Ben Courier reported that 108 children took part in this successful project, which was actively supported by committed teachers and volunteers.

The swimming training took place in the Nassau outdoor pool, where the children were divided into three groups: the red group for beginner swimmers, the blue group for advanced swimmers, and the zebra group for the most experienced swimmers. From June 24th to July 10th, 2024, students had the opportunity to improve their swimming skills and prepare for the various badges. During these eight days, various techniques such as breaststroke and backstroke, diving and jumps are practiced.

Teachers and support

What was particularly pleasing was the voluntary further training of the teachers who signed up for lifeguard training and thus obtained the qualification to teach swimming. Those too Association community provided the swimming pool and, together with the DLRG, ensured the professional implementation of the project. Four to six volunteers were on site every day to look after the children and support the teachers.

Parents also showed great commitment by helping out with sunscreen, tea and other little things. This joint effort was an important part of the project, which was also supported by the Rhineland-Palatinate Accident Insurance Fund and the Ministry of Education.

Achievements and awards

The effort paid off: the ceremonial handover of the swimming badges took place on Monday. Among the guests of honor were school director Thorsten Winkes, mayor Uwe Bruchhäuser and state parliament member Manuel Liguori, who presented the enthusiastic children with their awards. A total of 95 seahorses, 74 bronze badges and 48 silver badges were awarded. The badges are a significant symbol of the skills learned, although it should be noted that the seahorse is not proof of safe swimming, but rather represents a prelude to further achievements, as can be read on the DLRG website: DLRG.

The completion of the project was celebrated with a happy splash and a surprise in the form of ice cream for all the children. These successes and the smiling faces of the young swimmers must have given a feeling of pride not only to the teachers, but also to the dedicated helpers and parents.

Overall, the swimming project looks back on an overwhelming success story, and it seems as if the anticipation of a sequel next year is already palpable. The many people involved not only contributed to the children's swimming success, but also created valuable experiences and memories that last far beyond the summer holidays.
