Burglar fails in Dudenhofen restaurant – witnesses wanted!

On the night of Thursday to Friday, more precisely on August 9, 2025, there was an attempted break-in at a restaurant on Speyerer Straße in Dudenhofen. An unknown perpetrator forced open a window at the rear of the property and got inside. However, according to current knowledge, the burglar was unable to steal anything and left the restaurant the same way he came. The material damage caused to the operators is estimated at around 400 euros, as rheinpfalz.de reports.

The police were informed immediately and are now looking for witnesses who can provide information about the perpetrator or the incident. Anyone who has seen something can call 06232-1370 or email pispeyer@polizei.rlp.de. It is important that such incidents are solved quickly and the perpetrators are brought to justice.

A bigger problem?

A look at the current burglary statistics in Germany suggests that burglaries have increased in recent years, especially in urban areas. The figures for 2023 show an increase of around 18 percent compared to the previous year, with a total of 77,819 registered residential burglaries nationwide, which amounts to an average of 213 burglaries per day. In North Rhine-Westphalia, where Dudenhofen is located, a 15 percent increase in residential burglaries was recorded. The burglary scene is particularly pronounced in large cities, while rural regions tend to appear safer, as home-insider.de shows.

The special thing about this case is that it is an attempted burglary and 47 percent of burglary attempts in Germany are unsuccessful. This shows that many perpetrators are often occasional and spontaneous offenders who try their luck due to fewer security precautions. For this reason, the police recommend that you consider investing in mechanical and electronic security solutions to better protect yourself against break-ins.

Prevention is the be-all and end-all

Experts recommend that you spare no effort in preventing burglary. A combination of different security measures can significantly reduce the risk. Baltic and patio doors and windows are the most frequently chosen attack points for burglars - so special attention should be paid here. In addition to retrofitting mechanical security measures, structural changes and the installation of alarm systems are also advisable.

The police offer free security advice to help citizens effectively protect themselves against break-ins. These initiatives are particularly important to strengthen the population's sense of security and minimize the risk of criminal attacks.

In view of recent events, it is therefore essential to inform yourself about preventive measures and to take action if necessary. Let's live safer together!
