Kreisbad Heidefreude is finally opening again – swimmers are happy!

The wait is over: On Thursday, July 16, 2025, the Heidejagd district pool will finally open its doors to swimmers again. After extensive repair work on the water treatment system, the system is now ready for operation again. Swimmers in the northern Rhine-Palatinate district can look forward to refreshing hours in the water after operations had to stop for a longer period of time. The Rhine Palatinate reports that despite the reopening, future construction sites can also be expected.

The last few months have been challenging for many swimming enthusiasts, as repairs to the water treatment system are expected to take another three months. During this time, swimming was not possible in Heidefreude, and club sports had to be moved to Aquabella Mutterstadt. The district administration is currently in discussions with schools to organize alternative swimming options for school sports. As the district administration reports, the sauna area in the Maxdorfer Kreisbad remains open during the usual opening hours, although the ticket price for the sauna visit has been reduced to 8.50 euros.

Water hygiene and safety in focus

An important aspect for the reopening of the Heidejagd district pool is ensuring optimal water quality. In outdoor and indoor pools, the water is continuously recycled and disinfected in order to effectively kill microorganisms and possible pathogens. The Federal Environment Agency explains that this procedure is necessary to allow a high number of visitors in a relatively small pool without risk to health.

Water hygiene includes various elements, including the removal of microorganisms and contaminants and the reduction of undesirable substances. A central point is the exchange of at least 30 liters of pool water per bather with fresh water to ensure water quality. The legal requirements of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG) also play a crucial role, as they ensure that the water is such that there is no risk of harm to human health.

Despite the challenges posed by the repairs and the resulting restrictions, the district administration is grateful for the understanding and patience of the bathers. The reopening of the Heidejagd district pool is a step in the right direction and will certainly put a smile on the faces of swimming enthusiasts in the region.
