New SPD General Secretary Scholz: A breath of fresh air for the election campaign!
News from the Rhineland-Palatinate SPD: Just seven months before the state elections, a breath of fresh air is coming to the party leadership. The Ludwigshafen state parliament member Gregory Scholz will be the new general secretary of the SPD in Rhineland-Palatinate. The election will take place on August 23rd at a party conference in Idar-Oberstein, where Scholz will succeed Marc Ruland, who is not running for re-election. This is reported by the Rhine Palatinate.
Party leader Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler has great confidence in Scholz and sees him as the right man at the right time for this crucial phase. Scholz, 44 years old, announced that he would strive for understandable and accessible politics. “I am passionate about this party,” he said emphatically, as did they n-tv reported. One of Scholz's central concerns is to make communication within the party clear and on an equal footing and to reduce the complexity of political issues.
Outlook for the coming elections
The Rhineland-Palatinate SPD is facing important decisions: the list for the state elections in March 2026 is to be drawn up in November. Bätzing-Lichtenthäler will also run again in the upcoming elections, as will the three vice-chairmen: Prime Minister Alexander Schweitzer, Finance Minister Doris Ahnen and Education Minister Sven Teuber. A program party conference is scheduled for the beginning of 2026 to set the strategic course for the future of the SPD, such as Rhine newspaper further supplemented.
Gregory Scholz’s approach to making politics more tangible has met with a lot of positive feedback within the party. It will be exciting to see how he overcomes the challenges of the election campaign and appeals to voters with his fresh approach. Meanwhile, the comrades have little time to prepare for the tasks ahead.
