Sensation in Berlin: Gladiators Trier defeat ALBA 97:92!

On October 3rd, 2025 the time had come: The Gladiators Trier caused a small sensation in the Basketball Bundesliga and won their last game against the highly favored ALBA Berlin with 97:92. This exciting encounter took place in the Arena at Ostbahnhof, where over 100 fans from Trier made the journey to Berlin to support their team live.

The Gladiators didn't start the game well and were behind 23:35 after the first quarter. But the team around coach Jaques Schneider didn't give up. Max Theis, the chairman of the Fastbreak Trier fan club, reported on the long journey: “It was around 700 kilometers, but it was definitely worth it!” The first two quarters were characterized by a strong offensive from Berlin, who took the lead thanks to Boogie Ellis and his spectacular three-point shooting game.

A thrilling comeback

However, things turned in the second quarter. ALBA Berlin was no longer able to match the shooting rate of the first quarter, which gave Trier the opportunity to fight their way back into the game. At halftime it was 43:52 for the Berliners, but the Gladiators came out of the locker room with fresh enthusiasm.

In the third quarter, ALBA remained ahead at 75:68, but the Trier team didn't give up. Six minutes before the end of the game, Jordan Roland's 24 points brought the Gladiators within three points of their opponents. Shortly afterwards, Behnam Yachchali equalized with another basket and gave the Gladiators their first lead in the fourth quarter.

An unforgettable experience

The fans celebrated a memorable victory that catapulted the Gladiators to third place in the table. Marian Kockler, who is also part of the Fastbreak fan club, was beaming about the success: "This is simply fantastic! Our team has made an incredible comeback." Many fans decided to spend the night in Berlin to properly celebrate the victory. The return trip to Trier was characterized by an exuberant atmosphere, while the rest of the league was already preparing for the upcoming games.

Trier's next game is on Sunday against Bamberg, with a eye-catching Opportunity to continue the winning streak. The hall in the Trier Arena is almost sold out, and the last tickets were only available on Friday evening.

Basketball has a long tradition in Germany, dating back to the 2003/2004 season, when the league consisted of 16 teams. In 2023/2024, FC Bayern Munich secured the title, while Berlin are record cup winners and have won the most championships in the rather stagnant sports landscape. But the Gladiators Trier have made it clear with their promotion to the league and this win against ALBA Berlin that they are ready to bring a breath of fresh air to German basketball.

This means that basketball in Germany remains exciting and full of surprises - not least thanks to teams like the Gladiators Trier, who impress with their passion and fighting spirit!
