Speyer celebrates 50 years of Christmas market with a unique 3D light show!

In Speyer, anticipation is simmering for the upcoming Christmas and New Year market, which will feature a special highlight. On the occasion of the market's 50th anniversary, visitors can expect an impressive 3D mapping at the Altpörtel from November 24th to January 5th, 2026. This light spectacle promises to combine modern technology with local creativity and is produced by the company Limelight, an internationally renowned digital art design studio known for bespoke light art installations.

Instead of a traditional fireworks display, the city will show a three-dimensional projection that includes historical motifs and coloring pictures from daycare and school children in changing images. A glass picture of Santa Claus by Georg Brotzer will also be integrated into the presentation. “With this new marketing measure, we would like to join the league of cities like Brixen and Reims,” explains Mayor Stefanie Seiler. The focus of the project is clearly on light, sustainability and economic aspects, such as The Rhine Palatinate reported.

Unique implementation by experienced partners

The company is responsible for implementing the project Lang media technology from Mannheim, who has already demonstrated her skills at various light and media installations, such as Bergsilvester in Innsbruck. The artistic design of the approximately ten-minute video mapping comes from the creative mind François Schwamborn, who is working on this spectacular event together with the Lang Medientechnik team.

Lang Medientechnik will also provide insight into the exciting details of the project during the press conference on November 17th, together with the organizers Heidi Jester and Lena Damian as well as Mayor Seiler. “We would like to thank all the supporters and sponsors who make this possible,” continued Seiler.

Sponsors and supporters

Particularly noteworthy is the great support from the sponsors, including the BdS Römerberg-Speyer, the Bödeker Schuhhaus, GEWO Wohnen GmbH as well as the Speyer municipal utilities and the Speyer Technology Museum. Numerous showman companies also contribute to the realization of this unique light spectacle.

From Sunday to Thursday, the 3D mapping will be shown twice a day at the Altpörtel, so the audience can look forward to numerous opportunities to enjoy this unique experience. Preparations are already in full swing to offer visitors an unforgettable Advent and New Year celebration!
