In Neustadt an der Weinstraße, the pedestrians on Rittergartenstraße are the focus of the city administration. Grun-Marquardt criticizes the fact that pedestrian traffic in the city is often neglected.
Suggestions for improvement
A possible solution could be moving the bollards at the edge of the parking lot by about one meter. This measure would make it possible to create space for a sidewalk, although it would eliminate four to five parking spaces. However, building and traffic department head Bernhard Adams, who approved the application, emphasized that a quick solution is not in sight. Preliminary work and discussions are necessary to check the feasibility of this idea.
The city council also supported the Greens' proposal with a large majority; only the AfD spoke out against it, while Werner Kerth from the FWG abstained. This response shows that the issue of pedestrian-friendliness in the city is politically explosive.
