Certificates for day care workers: New course starts in Landau!

On July 21, 2025, a special occasion was celebrated as part of a qualification course for child day care workers: eight participants received their certificate. This course, which was offered in cooperation with the district youth welfare offices of Germersheim (GER) and Südliche Weinstraße (SÜW) as well as the youth welfare offices of the cities of Landau (LD) and Neustadt (NW), aims to prepare future day care workers for their important task. How suewpress reports, some graduates will soon start looking after children in day care.

A new daycare training course starts on Tuesday, November 4th and is aimed at anyone who wants to look after children aged 0 to 14 during the day. This practical training takes place in the Protestant family education center “Haus der Familie” in Landau and offers prospective day care workers the opportunity to look after children in their own home, in the children's household or in other suitable rooms. In Rhineland-Palatinate it is also possible for two day care workers to look after up to five children together.

Course content and structure

The course includes a total of 210 teaching units and 40 hours of internship, with courses being offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (except during holiday periods) and taking place on two Saturdays. One focus is on imparting in-depth knowledge of child day care, which is necessary for the care license from the local youth welfare office. The topics range from pedagogy and communication to nutrition to legal and business basics. The lessons are based on the “Competence-oriented qualification manual for child day care” from the German Youth Institute, like vhs rpk highlights.

Another important point: The course is subsidized by the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry for Family, Women, Youth, Integration and Consumer Protection, which slightly reduces the course fee of 210 euros for participants. After completing the course, it is expected to end with certification in June 2026.

Type of care and requirements

Child day care is becoming increasingly popular as a family-oriented and flexible form of care, especially since children from the age of one have a legal right to be cared for in a day care center or foster home. The training is led by social education specialists who have experience in early childhood education and adult education. As the Kindergarten Academy emphasizes, the further training also provides important information about legal principles, care contracts and insurance in order to best prepare future day care workers.

In order to take part in the course, a few requirements are necessary: a personal conversation with the teaching staff, a secondary school diploma, sufficient knowledge of German (at least level B2) as well as joy in dealing with children and empathy. A first aid course is also required to meet the requirements for successful completion.

Anyone who is interested can contact the youth welfare offices mentioned directly for the new course and further information in order to make their dream of their own day care a reality.
