Major fire in Bekond: Fire brigade rescues animals from burning horse boarding house!
On Saturday, December 21st, there was an impressive large-scale operation by the fire department in the mountain between Bekond and Ensch. A fire was reported in an agricultural building at a horse boarding house around 9:15 p.m. When the emergency services arrived, a large outbuilding was already fully engulfed in flames. But thanks to the fire brigade's quick action, the dogs in the kennels were saved and the fire at the house was effectively fought.
The residents of the adjacent house were able to get to safety; however, they suffered minor smoke injuries that did not require hospital treatment. The fire department immediately started extensive extinguishing work. This meant that a full-scale fire in the house was prevented, although there was considerable damage to the property and the roof had to be opened using a turntable ladder to extinguish embers. The gas cylinder was safely removed from the danger area and several respiratory protection teams were deployed to bring the situation under control.
Speed and operational power
A total of over 110 emergency services were involved, including the fire departments from Ensch, Klüsserath, Leiwen, Schleich and Schweich as well as personnel from the fire department operations center. The DRK unit from Schweich, emergency doctors and the police from Schweich and Trier also provided support on site. The cause of the fire remained unknown for the time being, and police fire investigators began their work that evening.
As was already proven during this operation, the fire brigade plays a central role in averting danger. This responsibility is clearly regulated: firefighters not only put out fires, but also save lives and rescue people and animals from emergencies. If damage occurs during their use, this can be covered by liability privileges. The fire department is only liable for intentional or grossly negligent damage, which is intended to encourage quick action in emergencies. However, this does not apply to events or in road traffic, where liability is regulated differently, explains the article by DieVersicherunger.
Fire statistics and safety
The current situation shows how important a well-functioning fire service is. According to the vfdb (Association for the Promotion of German Fire Protection), German fire departments have been collecting extensive data about fires and their causes since 2010. These statistics are used in over 5,000 operations to examine the effectiveness of fire protection measures. In the long term, this helps to ensure safe fire protection standards and efficient hazard prevention.
The incident in Bekond and Ensch is a clear example of the challenges that the fire department constantly has to face. Their rapid operations are not only important for protecting property, but often also for saving lives. Once again it became clear that in difficult situations, quick action and good coordination of life-saving and fire protection are paramount.
