Art for a good cause: New cultural share from Chikako Kato in Trier!
On Tuesday, October 28th, the new cultural share for 2025 was presented in Trier. The artist Chikako Kato, who was born on the Japanese island of Hokkaido and has been working as a freelance artist since 2000, contributes an exciting motif with her work “Sunbird Crying for Freedom / 自由を叫ぶ太陽鳥”. Priced at 50 euros, the cultural share is both an interesting collector's item and a contribution to supporting cultural projects in Trier. These shares are very popular and support cross-generational cultural initiatives that draw on the work of the Trier Cultural Foundation, which has been active since 2004 and pools voluntary commitments and donations.
Chikako Kato, who also teaches and has headed the “le filou – Trier Youth Art School” since 2022, has made a name for herself through her philosophically influenced works. In her works she sees people and nature as one and uses hidden symbols and messages that make the viewer think. Kato has already exhibited in numerous countries such as Japan, the USA, Germany, France, Luxembourg and Switzerland and received the Ramboux Prize from the city of Trier in 2014 for her painting.
Cultural wine for a good cause
To match the cultural share, the VDP winery Vereinigte Hospitien created two new cultural wines. The proceeds from the sale of these wines flow directly into the cultural work of the city of Trier, which supports the campaign not only artistically but also financially.
The Trier Cultural Foundation, which connects the initiators behind the cultural share, attaches great importance to supporting cultural workers. It not only provides financial resources, but also advisory help from volunteer experts. Through projects like these, those responsible want to promote cultural education in Trier and make it easier for young and old to access art.
Art and auction house: A look into the scene
The auction house not only provides a platform for art, but also helps to raise awareness of designers and artists from the region. It operates online on renowned auction platforms and thus attracts an international audience.
These initiatives, be it the cultural share in Trier or the auction houses in the area, help ensure that the art scene remains lively and is inspired with new ideas and projects. It will be exciting to see what other cultural activities will be launched in the future.
