Fatal head-on collision near Trier: two people die tragically

A tragic accident occurred on Monday, June 16, 2025, on State Road 150 between Büdlicherbrück and the Mehring junction near Trier. At around 1:20 p.m. there was a head-on collision between a car and an oncoming truck, in which two people lost their lives.

The two people involved in the accident, a 76-year-old driver and a 68-year-old passenger, unfortunately died at the scene of the accident. The 54-year-old driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for further treatment. As the police report, the car crossed into the oncoming lane for reasons that are still unclear and collided head-on with the truck. The cause of the accident is currently being investigated and an expert has been called in to clarify what happened in detail.

Emergency services and road closure

The emergency services were quickly on site, including the Hermeskeil, Schweich and Morbach police stations as well as the traffic accident investigation team from the Trier police headquarters. A rescue helicopter with an emergency doctor was also called to the scene of the accident. They were supported by the volunteer fire departments from Thalfang, Büdlich and Heidenburg as well as the Thalfang road maintenance department, who helped with traffic safety and cordoning off.

The complete closure of State Road 150 will last until around 7:30 p.m. in order to be able to carry out all the necessary accident investigations. The police and emergency services expressed their condolences to the relatives of the deceased, which is of great importance in such difficult situations.
