Trier becomes a kickboxing Mecca: World Championship attracts 2000 athletes!
The city of Trier is the center of kickboxing these days. Over 2,000 athletes from more than 40 nations compete at the Kickboxing World Championship, which started on Tuesday in the Trier Arena. The event is organized by the “World Kickboxing and Karate Union” (WKU), one of the most important kickboxing associations, which is based in Karlsruhe. Trier successfully beat the capital Berlin in the application process to host this prestigious event. This is a big dream come true for the city.
Eleven-year-old Lennox Baschin from Föhren in the Trier-Saarburg district is also among the participants. He is fighting in his first world championship and started kickboxing at the age of four. His father, Sascha Baschin, can already look back on impressive successes: He became kickboxing world champion in 2013 and 2014 and has been national coach since 2022. Despite a bitter defeat against a strong Mexican opponent on the first day of competition, his father's pride remains unbroken.
Championship highlights
The World Championship will conclude with a special gala, the “Nox Gladiatorum Fight Night,” next Friday evening. Around twelve exciting fights are expected, with the World Championship fight in the K1 discipline between Niki Karbassian from Cologne and the South African fighter Celeste Le Roux being the highlight. The tension and anticipation of the fighters and fans is already noticeable. If you don't want to miss any of the exciting fights, you can look forward to the detailed report that will be broadcast on Saturday evening on the television news program SWR Aktuell Rheinland-Pfalz.
This competition not only brings the best kickboxers in the world to Trier, but also shows how much the sport is supported in Germany and the region. Such events further increase interest in martial arts, which is also important for future talents like Lennox.
For the city of Trier, the event not only means cultural diversity, but also economic revitalization. Shops and restaurants in the region can benefit from the increased number of visitors and present themselves to the public. Preparations are in full swing to offer the athletes and spectators an unforgettable experience.
In a completely different area, but also of growing interest, is Seitan, a new trend in the kitchen. This tasteless ingredient made from wheat gluten is not only popular with vegetarians and vegans, but is also gaining more and more fans in general cuisine. With its ability to absorb marinades well and simulate various meat alternatives, Seitan has found many lovers. Whether in the form of a breaded gluten-free version or as a protein-rich ingredient in various dishes - the preparation is varied and creative. The use of Seitan in international cuisine shows how trends in food culture can enrich everyday cooking and could therefore also find a place in Trier's culinary offerings.
