In the lively atmosphere of the Westpfalzhalle in Zweibrücken, numerous small judokas from the region will compete in the Nils Nager tournament on Sunday. The organizer of this exciting event is the 1st Judo Club (JC) Zweibrücken, under the direction of Hendrik Harth. The aim of the event is to increase the number of participants to 120, after the tournament was opened beyond the borders of the Palatinate towards the Rhineland for the first time this year. The Palatinate Judo Association is the organizer behind this campaign, which already promises numerous exciting fights. The media partner is RHEINPFALZ, which will report on the event. The Rheinpfalz reports that the participants will compete in the U11 and U13 age groups.

What constitutes judo? This modern, unarmed Japanese martial art, which has been part of the Olympic Games since 1964, focuses on throwing, holding and subduing opponents. like on Wikipedia Judo was founded in 1882 by Kanō Jigorō. With its emphasis on randori, free sparring, and the principles of seiryoku-zenyo (good use of energy) and jita-kyoei (mutual benefit), judo attracts many young athletes.

Successful judokas from Zweibrücken

But fighting doesn't just happen at tournaments. Most recently, Joya Blöcher from 1. JC Zweibrücken won an impressive bronze medal at the German U21 Championships in Frankfurt (Oder). Despite tearing a ligament six weeks ago and only two weeks of preparation, she made it to the semi-finals and showed off her skills impressively. In her weight class up to 48 kg, she managed to defeat Charlotte Nettesheim from Brandenburg with a hip throw in the fight for third place. The Zweibrücken Judo Club highlights that Joya was the only medalist from the Palatinate and Saarland at the U21 DM.

Her club colleague Till Braunbach couldn't achieve the same placement, but caused a stir in the consolation round with his fighting spirit. He won several duels before losing out in the fight for bronze against Maximilian Felde from Bavaria. Braunbach is being looked after at the federal base in Stuttgart and plans to compete at the Bremen Masters.
