Flashing lights over Saarland: speed controls from Monday!
In the coming week there will be increased speed checks by the police in Saarland again. This speed limit measure will take place from Monday, December 1st to Sunday, December 7th, 2025. The Saarland police have already announced the checkpoints, and the locations are closely related to accident clusters and the resulting accident consequences and causes. How Völklingen in transition reported, it could also be that further controls can take place, although the announced ones can also be omitted if necessary.
The planned checkpoints for next week are spread across different streets. On Monday, speeding will be punished on the BAB 6 between the Saarbrücken motorway junction and the Rohrbach junction. The focus is also on the B 406 between Nennig and Oberleuken and the B 51 between Kleinblittersdorf and Güdingen. On Tuesday, the BAB 623 and the B 269 will be added between Ensdorf and the state border with France. And so it continues throughout the week, right up to the check on Sunday on the BAB 8 between the Neunkirchen motorway junction and the state border with Rhineland-Palatinate.

Speed monitoring, as stated by law, not only serves to punish violations, but also has the higher goal of increasing road safety and reducing accidents. Speed enforcement has been organized in Germany since the 1950s. The first prototype of a radar device was presented in Germany in 1956, which ensures that motor vehicles adhere to the specified speed limits. In this regard, the police contribute how Wikipedia explains the responsibility for surveillance in non-local areas, while public order offices are active within built-up areas.
The controls are also a hotly debated topic: critics point out that speed enforcement is often carried out for economic reasons. Ultimately, the revenue from fines flows into public budgets and often does not cover the costs of monitoring. For many, the question is therefore whether the measures actually serve to protect road users or whether they are not about raising revenue. This is a dilemma that is being debated not only in Germany, but also in other European countries such as Austria and Switzerland.
All road users therefore need to keep their eyes open and keep an eye on speed, because the police are ready to keep an eye on it. Anyone interested can find information about further controls and specific regulations on the police website: www.polizei.saarland.de.
