Heat records in Saarland: outdoor pools fight against bather violence!

On June 30, 2025, the German Weather Service (DWD) will take stock of June, which hardly leaves a good thing about the weather conditions in Germany. Loud S.R The month was not only too warm, but also remarkably dry and sunny. The average temperatures are particularly outstanding in the federal states of Saarland and Baden-Württemberg, which had the highest average temperature of 19.8°C.

Compared to the historical data for the reference period from 1961 to 1990, in which the average temperature was 15.6°C, the difference is unmistakable. The hours of sunshine also attracted attention: a record was set in Saarland with 297 hours of sunshine; only Baden-Württemberg could boast more hours of sunshine. The climate average for hours of sunshine, however, is only 204 hours. Drought is another theme that characterized June. Rainfall in Saarland only reached 61 liters per square meter, while 80 liters is given as the target.

Visitor records and challenges in the outdoor pools

The warm temperatures led to an influx of visitors to the outdoor swimming pools in Saarland. The weekend before last was particularly a complete success: new visitor records were set with 1,600 bathers each in Ottweiler and Kleinblittersdorf. But the rush also brought problems. In Dillingen and Ottweiler the police had to intervene because there were conflicts between bathers and staff. In Dillingen, people were even banned from entering the house and a security service was called in to calm the situation.

In order to increase the safety standard, additional lifeguards and security guards are deployed in several outdoor pools, including the Fechingen combination pool and the Totobad. The Saarbrücken baths also appeal to visitors to use public transport, as the parking spaces are usually overloaded.

A look at climate change

Another topic being discussed on the sidelines of these heated weather events is climate change. Loud Statista Germany is suffering from the clearly noticeable effects of climate change. Even though CO2 emissions in Germany are declining, the country remains one of the largest contributors to global CO2 emissions and is in ninth place in the international ranking. The sense of responsibility for a greenhouse gas-neutral future is becoming increasingly urgent, as forecasts show that climate impacts could cause economic damage of up to 920 billion euros by 2050.

Changing rainfall patterns and increasing heat stresses pose challenges to the ecosystem and the health of the population that cannot be ignored. Warming not only has an impact on nature, but could also promote diseases such as dengue fever and TBE. A topic that concerns many people in Germany and that should be even more on the agenda in the future.

The combination of warm weather, influx of visitors to the outdoor pools and the serious challenges of climate change calls for caution. The summer has only just begun - a good hand in dealing with these topics is required.
