Lisdorf celebrates the opening of the new village community center for everyone!
On January 16, 2026, a new chapter of community life opened in Lisdorf: the LisDORFhaus was ceremoniously opened. With guests from politics, church and local associations, including Mayor Marc Speicher, the event was a clear sign of cohesion in the village. Herbert Germann, the chairman of the “Lisdorf ... everything in the green area” association, emphasized how important a central meeting place is for the community, especially after the challenges that the pandemic brought with it for many clubs. “The LisDORFhaus is a house made by Lisdorfers for Lisdorfers,” he said, while Deacon Christoph Nenno blessed the building with holy water.
The creation of the LisDORFhaus is the result of a variety of voluntary efforts. The building, which previously served as a kitchen studio and guest house, underwent an extensive renovation over three months. Georg Jungmann played a key role and ensured that the house was equipped. Sponsors contributed to the opening ceremony by presenting gifts, including a television for the meeting rooms. “We have invested a lot of time and work into this project,” explained Germann. “Now the first clubs can move in and start their work.” A total of 18 clubs with around 1,500 members will use the new center of club life.
A community project for the future
However, the importance of the LisDORFhaus goes beyond its use as a meeting place. It is intended to function as a place for social encounters that offers activities for all age groups. Rehearsals, meetings and social gatherings are planned to strengthen the sense of community. The location of the building and the central role it plays for the village community sets it apart from other community houses, which are often only used by certain groups, as is often the case in other regions. An example of this are the village community centers in Hesse, whose importance as a meeting place for families and communities is increasingly being questioned these days, as a study showed reported.
The closure of the former inn was a turning point for Lisdorf, revealing the need for a new meeting place that could be helpful for both club life and the village community. This was also identified in the “Links der Saar” village renewal concept, which addressed the lack of such places. Now the LisDORFhaus shows the potential of community projects that were made possible through the commitment of citizens and the city administration and could be implemented quickly and unbureaucratically.
A promising future
The opening of the LisDORFhaus is not only a benefit for the club's work, but also symbolizes a renaissance in community life. The first clubs have already checked into the new premises, and many more will follow. “We want every Lisdorfer to be included here,” said Germann. “The house is a place where people can come together, exchange ideas and work together.” It remains to be hoped that these new spaces will actually stimulate community life and bring a breath of fresh air to village society.
The LisDORFhaus will not only be a new meeting place, but with its diverse equipment it will also be a space for rehearsals, meetings, senior offers and social gatherings. A strong sign for the future of Lisdorf!
