Neukirchen-Seelscheid: Recount mixes up election results!
On October 30, 2025, a public counting of the 382 ballot papers took place in the council chamber of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid. Loud WDR the process only took 15 minutes. There were four city administration employees and several politicians on site who followed the proceedings closely.
The recount was carried out due to irregularities reported by AfD politician Stefan Eich in the Wahnbach electoral district. The AfD came in third place during the council election, but did not fare well in the Wahnbach voting district. Eich expressed the suspicion that there could have been a swap of votes between the AfD and the FDP.
The result of the recount
As it turned out, the AfD received 70 votes in the recount, while the FDP only received 14 votes - and not the other way around, as initially assumed. Despite this correction, the composition of the local council remains unchanged: the AfD retains its six seats, while the FDP is still represented with two seats. Both the AfD and the FDP accepted the new result with composure.
In a further step, the AfD is now calling for a partial recount in the “Lohmar V” constituency, where its candidate was defeated by just one vote. However, a review of the results in Lohmar could be viewed as unrealistic due to the high legal hurdles. The political landscape therefore remains exciting and the parties will continue to pay attention to how the situation develops.
