On Sunday afternoon, July 20, 2025, a violent storm caused chaos on the streets in Saarland. The L287 between Wiebelskirchen and Neunkirchen-Wellesweiler was particularly affected. The July 20 accident was not the first incident on this route. On October 25, 2024, shortly before 1 p.m., there was a tragic accident here in which a 70-year-old woman in a white Opel Agila was killed. The incident occurred near the junction with Bexbacher Straße when the Opel collided with a Dacia Duster containing two women aged 21 and 44 and a three-year-old boy. While the elderly lady tragically died at the scene of the accident, the other three occupants were taken to hospital with some serious injuries. A large contingent of rescue services was deployed and the ADAC rescue helicopter “Christoph 16” was called in for air rescue.
The fire brigade not only ensured fire protection, but also closed the L287 until around 2:20 p.m. The police launched a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the accident. This raises the question of how safe the road conditions in this region actually were during the period in question.
