Comic fun in Oberwürzbach: Kids design their own adventures!

During the last week of the autumn holidays, an exciting comic workshop took place in the Oberwürzbach village community center, which made the hearts of 14 young participants beat faster. This workshop was an additional offer from the youth office of the city of St. Ingbert and was quickly booked out due to the great interest. Under the direction of graduate communication designer Isabelle Jasten, the children worked on their creative projects for five hours each over two intensive days.

At the beginning of the workshop, the children had the opportunity to create personal profiles and exchange ideas with each other during get-to-know-you games. They then immersed themselves in the fascinating world of storytelling and were encouraged to visualize their own ideas in the form of comics. This creative development was met with great enthusiasm: Olaf Blaumeiser, councilor for social affairs, and Claudia Motsch, department head, were impressed by the diversity of the stories, which ranged from funny to scary. The children's motivation and commitment were so great that Julia Klesen from the youth office noticed that the participants were completely absorbed in their work during the workshop and put their cell phones aside.

Creative minds and exciting ideas

Of particular note are the creative efforts of Samuel and Leo, who worked together to create a captivating crime story. Their collaboration shows how inspiring mutual support in creative processes can be. Overall, the workshop was perceived as a great event and there is a desire to repeat such an event in the future.

However, the possibilities offered by comic workshops are not limited to Oberwürzbach. The digital comic workshop, which lasts 4-5 days, is aimed at children from the age of eight to young adults over 20. With a maximum of eight participants, each equipped with iPads, the young creatives can work in a small, personal setting. This offers the opportunity to learn digital techniques and design your own comics, which is also an interesting addition to the traditional workshop in Oberwürzbach.

Diverse offers for young creatives

The process of the digital comic workshop is varied: from the introduction to using iPads to the creation of small test comics to the planning and development of your own stories. Participants engage with comic culture and learn how to implement their ideas visually. They can also bundle their works into a comic book and, if necessary, publish it, which offers the young artists additional motivation.

In addition to the regular workshops, there is also the opportunity to make comic films, animate comics or set music to them. This sustainable and diverse type of creative employment offers the young workshop participants a platform to develop their talents and discover the joy of comics.
