Liquid fertilizer accident in Marne: truck driver injured, residents safe!
This morning there was an incident in Marne that caused a brief stir. During a refueling process at a silo, liquid fertilizer escaped, which led to the deployment of various fire departments. At 8:27 a.m., a compressed air hose on a silo vehicle burst and a mix of nitrogen and sulfur escaped. Fortunately, the all-clear was quickly given as there was never any specific danger to the residents, informs news.de about it.
The 59-year-old truck driver from Jessen in Saxony-Anhalt was on site and suffered a minor eye injury in the incident. An ambulance took him for outpatient specialist treatment, while the volunteer fire brigades from Marne, Schalkholz and Neufeld as well as the Dithmarschen district's hazardous goods fire brigade quickly arrived at the scene and secured the situation. Residents were informed via the NINA warning app and remained confident thanks to the rapid response of the emergency services.
Maximum safety for dangerous goods
Safety when handling dangerous goods is strictly regulated in Germany. Companies that transport such materials must comply with safety measures and legal requirements. This concerns, among other things, the correct classification of goods and their appropriate packaging, such as DEKRA emphasized. Handling chemicals such as liquid fertilizers also places high demands on transport and storage conditions. The incident in Marne shows how important it is that such safety precautions are observed in order to avoid accidents and dangers to people and the environment.
The Dithmarschen district employers' liability insurance association has also become aware of the incident and is examining the circumstances surrounding the charging process. It remains to be seen what lessons will be learned from this event, but the rapid response of the fire departments and the informed residents show that we are well prepared in such situations.
