Travemünde Week starts: Sailing festival with Rotspon Cup and fireworks!
On Tuesday, July 18, 2025, the starting signal was given for the popular Travemünde Week, which once again combines sailing and festivals. Lübeck's mayor Jan Lindenau (SPD) ceremoniously opened the event with the command “Hot the flag”. The starting signal for the first race, the long-distance regatta “Rund Fehmarn”, was also given by Schleswig-Holstein's Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU). Until July 27th, visitors have the opportunity to experience the exciting competition up close.
A total of around 770 participants in 350 boats are taking part in three international championships and five German title fights. An integral part of the regatta week is the race for the Rotspon Cup, a highlight not only for the participants but also for the audience. On July 23rd, Mayor Lindenau will also meet Ulf Kampfer (SPD), the mayor of Kiel, which further increases curiosity about the event.
A feast for the sailing heart and palate
Travemünde Week offers visitors the opportunity to watch yachts and dinghies come in and out of the Trave. The piers at Priwall, Grünstrand and Mövenstein are well attended, and the daily Trave races, which take place in the afternoon around 5 p.m., can be clearly seen from the Trave promenade. The races are not only commented on, but also promise an exciting atmosphere. Visitors can look forward to a small fleet of the current TW classes racing on a narrow course.
Another highlight of this year's Travemünde Week is the Volksbank Rotspon Cup, which not only demands sporting ambition. This year, Lübeck's mayor and his colleague Reinhard Meyer, Minister for Economy, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labor of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, are competing against each other. You can win a magnum bottle of Rotspon – an interesting prize for a sporting competition!
