Egon Perschk is the new mayor of Glücksburg – what’s next!

On November 9, 2025, Egon Perschk won the decisive runoff election for the mayoralty of Glücksburg. The independent candidate prevailed with an impressive 59 percent of the vote against the FDP candidate Kay Richert, who also enjoyed the support of the CDU. This represents a significant change in the politics of the small coastal town in the Schleswig-Flensburg district, as the new mayor will take over the office from Kristina Franke (CDU), who did not stand for re-election, on January 2, 2026.

With a voter turnout of 51 percent and the primary election on October 12th, in which Perschk received 37.7 percent and Richert 36.4 percent of the vote, the great interest of citizens in the upcoming changes is evident. The SSW local politician André Pastorff achieved 17.1 percent, followed by the non-party police officer Jan Buck with 8.8 percent. The election brings a breath of fresh air to the city, which has previously struggled with financial challenges, particularly high levels of debt and the search for investors for the Förde-Therme.

A mayor with vision

Egon Perschk, who has lived in Glücksburg for ten years, has a wide range of administrative experience. On his own website he emphasizes that improving the quality of life of all citizens is very important to him. He advocates for a transparent and citizen-oriented urban policy that includes all groups in society - from families to seniors to people with disabilities.

Improving mobility is particularly important to him. He wants to ensure that all citizens have barrier-free access and that connections to public transport are improved. He also plans to optimize the opening times of the town hall and review the administrative structures in order to guarantee better accessibility for the population.

Promote diversity and inclusion

One of Perschk's main concerns is to strengthen volunteer work and create meeting places, such as a weekly market, to promote togetherness in the community. He would also like to work to ensure that children and young people have safe ways to get to schools and leisure activities. High-quality daycare places are also part of his plan, as is the introduction of children's and youth parliaments to give younger citizens a voice.

Seniors should also be actively involved in the design of their city, which is why Perschk is calling for age-appropriate infrastructure. Another point on his agenda is the balance between tourism and housing, where he would like to advocate for affordable housing for workers.

Perschk wants to secure the future of the Fördeland Therme as a sports and leisure pool and actively involve citizens in an ideas competition. The construction yard should also be strengthened with modern machines and enough staff to keep the cityscape well maintained. Overall, Egon Perschk has outlined a clear roadmap for his mayoralty in the last few weeks and is full of drive to tackle Glücksburg's challenges.

Whether the changes he is seeking will bring the hoped-for improvement remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: the new chapter in Glücksburg has begun and many eyes will be on the implementation of his ideas. It should also be mentioned at this point that the election and the planning are taking place at a time when local city politicians are called upon more than ever to deal with the pressing questions of everyday life in order to ensure proximity and transparency to the citizens, as NDR reports.
