A light art festival and blind drivers: Schleswig-Holstein lights up!
The city of Kellinghusen is currently experiencing significant investment in local infrastructure. How NDR reports, SH Netz is investing over one million euros in the renewal of the medium-pressure gas pipeline over a stretch of 1.3 kilometers. The construction work will be carried out using an open trench construction method, which could temporarily lead to minor traffic disruptions. The project is scheduled to be completed by December 19, 2025.
But that is not the only innovation in the region. The next step will begin in January 2026: the laying of a medium-voltage cable over 3.6 km and a low-voltage cable of 1.4 km. There are also plans to modernize five local network stations, which are important for security of supply in Kellinghusen and the surrounding area.
Special events in Flensburg and Husum
Things will be particularly interesting on October 31, 2025 in Flensburg: There will be driving training for blind people in the Fördepark parking lot. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 23 participants from different cities will have the opportunity to learn how to drive a car under the guidance of experienced driving instructors. An exciting experience that should strengthen the self-confidence of those affected.
Husum is also preparing for a special event: from October 30, 2025, the city will be the venue for the light art festival under the motto “Sea of Lights – Everything Shines”. Artists present their impressive light installations at five different locations in the city center, which can be admired from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Physical well-being is also taken care of and visitors can look forward to Sunday shopping.
Schleswig-Holstein's childcare at a glance
Another interesting fact concerns all-day care in daycare centers: the proportion of three to six-year-old children in Schleswig-Holstein has recorded a slight increase. In Kiel an impressive 87% of children receive full-time care, while in Neumünster 61%, in the Plön district 35% and in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district 33% of the little ones enjoy such care. These differences are mainly due to higher demand in urban areas, where there are more working parents and a higher density of facilities.
Weather and wind in Schleswig-Holstein
The weather forecasts for the coming days are unpleasant. The sky over Schleswig-Holstein is characterized by dense clouds and a lot of rain; the maximum values are between 10 and 12 degrees. Moderate to fresh winds and sometimes stormy gusts on the coast will ensure that temperatures will reach 9 to 11 degrees by 6 p.m. A real November day is upon us.
While the city boasts promising investments and exciting events, the coming weeks are sure to bring some interesting changes that will enrich life in Kellinghusen and the entire region.
