VOX withdraws The Perfect Dinner” after the rampage in Graz!

The cooking show “The Perfect Dinner” will be canceled from VOX’s program at short notice. This drastic step comes after a school shooting in Graz, Austria, which sadly left ten people dead, including nine teenagers and a teacher. The incident occurred on June 10, 2025 and has caused grief and horror across the nation. With the program change, VOX shows sympathy and respects the victims and their relatives.

The new episodes of the popular show were originally planned for June 30th to July 4th, 2025 in Graz. Five amateur chefs from Austria had prepared to present their favorite dishes and compete against each other. However, these planned Graz episodes will be postponed indefinitely, as a spokeswoman for the broadcaster confirmed.

Program changes in response to the tragedy

Instead of the Graz episodes, VOX will now broadcast episodes that have already been produced from Flensburg. These episodes air daily from Monday to Friday at 7 p.m. In Flensburg, the candidates Jan, Nele, Frank, Sandra and Kim show their cooking skills and delight the audience with different dishes. VOX's decision to postpone the Graz episodes was not undifferentiated, but occurred in a context that other media and broadcasters also reflect with various adjustments to this crisis situation.

The rampage also led to the ordering of three days of national mourning in Austria, which affected the entire society. ORF program director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz emphasized the responsibility of public broadcasting and announced comprehensive program changes. Artistic events, such as the “Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert”, have been adapted to the current mourning situation. For example, there is a minute's silence for the victims.

The way forward

In Graz itself, the psychological and physical aftereffects of the rampage are still noticeable for many of those affected. Numerous people are receiving medical treatment as the city deals with the aftermath of this tragedy. The shock is deep and the entire population's thoughts are with the victims and their families.

As events show, the broadcasting landscape does not remain untouched by developments in society. VOX's decision is part of a larger picture that shows how media responds to grief and compassion. The Graz episodes will be rescheduled at a later date, but no new broadcast date has been set yet.

The coming weeks will show how the situation with the delays in programming schedules in the entertainment industry will develop. However, VOX remains there for the viewers by ensuring that the Flensburg episodes continue to run at the usual time.
