Pioneers of the future: Digital Learning Campus starts in Schleswig-Holstein!

On July 1, 2025, the future visions for schools, companies and society will come together at the Digital Learning Campus (DLC) in Schleswig-Holstein. A fourth-grader from Bad Oldesloe describes the first “participation day for students and companies” as extremely nice. Astrid Hintze, the initiator of the DLC, also appreciates such positive feedback: “The reactions from schools and companies show that we are on the right track,” she reports.

The DLC is part of a promising nationwide project dedicated to the topics of artificial intelligence, digital education and sustainability. Over 100 regional partners from business and society are working on these open future locations, which are opening in Flensburg, Eckernförde, Schleswig, Neumünster, Kiel, Heide, Itzehoe, Elmshorn and Lübeck. Learning rooms in converted shopping centers, marketplaces, museums and technology centers are intended to connect people in Schleswig-Holstein and give them future skills.

Free access to knowledge

Access to the Digital Learning Campus offerings is easy and free of charge via the website www.dlc.sh possible. The face-to-face and online courses, such as “AI for Rookies” and the “Edu Skill Lab”, aim to appeal to participants from different age groups and backgrounds. Dr. Johannes Ripken, cluster leader for the Digital Economy Schleswig-Holstein, underlines the positive effects that artificial intelligence can have on the world of work.

The KISH AI initiative particularly supports small and medium-sized companies in the use of AI technologies. Eike Zimmermann, project manager at KISH, organizes practical events and workshops. “We want to help companies sensibly integrate AI into their processes,” he explains.

Scientific support and sustainable goals

The project, which is supported by the NORDAKADEMIE, the European University of Flensburg and the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences, has set itself ambitious goals. A total of 38 million euros will be made available by the state of Schleswig-Holstein and the European Regional Development Fund. This funding enables a wide range of practice-oriented workshops and the development of an AI competency scheme that is accessible to all target groups. The sub-project AILISH (Artificial Intelligence Literacy and Computational Thinking in Schleswig-Holstein) aims to create tailor-made learning opportunities from which employees, teachers, students and interested citizens benefit.

The Digital Learning Campus manages to capture the spirit of the times and encourages people to prepare for the challenges of digitalization. The success lies not only in the positive feedback from the participants, but also in the vision of making Schleswig-Holstein a model for digital education.
