Dinner with the country women: experience conviviality in Ratzeburg!

The LandFrauen in Ratzeburg are launching a completely new offer! From now on everyone is cordially invited to take part in a convivial “Dinner with the LandFrauen” every third Friday of the month at 5.30 p.m. in the “Lieb und Lütt” café. This initiative, which has the motto “Eat, exchange and laugh together”, is intended not only to delight the palate, but also to strengthen sociability in the region. Last Friday, October 24th, 2025, the first dinner together took place, where 19 guests came together to get to know each other better over sandwiches, pasta salad and fresh vegetables.

The team, led by Hilke Ramm, the first chairwoman, is supported by Kerstin and Udo Theinert as well as Monika Schmitt. After their vacation, Ute Dahl and Edith Wernecke also join the team. As the Duchy Direct reports, there is a culinary extra at every meeting - the first time, homemade pasta salad delighted the guests. The next supper will take place on November 21, 2025. Participation costs 5 euros per person and payment is made directly in the café. Registration is possible from November 3, 2025, either by phone on 0160 911 84 889 or by email to ratzeburg@landfrauen-herzogtum.de.

The tradition of rural women

The rural women's movement has a long and important history in Germany, dating back to the 19th century. From the challenges of the agricultural sector, a community grew that stood up for the interests and further education of women in rural areas. Elisabet Boehm, a virtuously committed landlady, initiated the organization for rural and domestic economics education for women. On February 2, 1898, the first agricultural housewives' association was founded in Rastenburg/East Prussia. By 1933, this had developed into one of the most important women's associations in the German Reich, as the website of the District rural women documented.

The focus of this first association's work included further training in rural areas, sales opportunities for household products and cultural aspects. The association's work expanded quickly and was well received in many regions of Germany. Interestingly, the Reich Association of Agricultural Housewives' Associations, which was founded in 1948, became the predecessor organization of today's German Rural Women's Association, which now has around 550,000 members.

The LandFrauen initiative in Ratzeburg fits seamlessly into this proud tradition and thus sets a trademark for conviviality and community. If you're looking for a social gathering, you should definitely keep November 21st free.
