The art scene in our region is becoming more lively than ever! The exhibition series “Villages Show Art” reaches its 20th edition this year, not as a celebratory anniversary, but as an important presentation after its launch in 2004. More than 130 artists show their works at 18 exhibition locations in the picturesque surroundings of the Lauenburg Lakes Office. This series of events has become a real highlight in the cultural calendar, not only attracting art lovers but also promoting tourism in the region. Duchy Direct reports on this colorful initiative.

The official opening will take place on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the “Alte Schule” cultural center in Sterley. Here, artistic diversity is celebrated in a convivial atmosphere. Mayors and other officials, such as Herbert Schmidt and Heinz Dohrendorff, are also committed and actively support this project, which is closely linked to the local community. A look back at past exhibitions and an outlook on the upcoming one should not be missed. The tourism committee has already prepared intensively for the new variant of the art presentation and informed all participants about the process Villages show art.

Diverse exhibitions and opening times

This year the exhibitions will be on view from July 26th to August 17th, every Saturday and Sunday, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. However, some communities, such as Groß Disnack and Kittlitz, have set different opening times, which will be announced in good time. In Salem and Seedorf the exhibition will not begin until August 2nd, while the municipality of Utecht will close its doors on August 10th. Particularly exciting: Berkenthin and Lehmrade open on certain weekends in August and invite visitors to enjoy the works on a leisurely tour.

The concept of the exhibition series remains low-threshold this year too. Group exhibitions in village community centers enable anyone interested in art to immerse themselves without inhibitions. There is no board of trustees, which further underlines the unifying nature of the event. Since 2007 there has also been an additional supporting program with readings and workshops that are creative and inspiring.

Cultural highlights and engagement

A special event is the guided bike art tour on August 9th, which will start at 1 p.m. in Schmilau, Dorfstraße 12. Here, cyclists can not only admire the works of art, but also exchange ideas with the artists. The winter edition of “Land & Raum”, which contains extensive articles on art and culture in rural areas, also offers numerous suggestions for cultural enrichment. Such events are not only a showcase for creativity, they also strengthen togetherness in the villages and help to further develop local identity ÖKL emphasized.

The exhibition series “Villages Show Art” is a living symbol of the possibilities that art can develop in rural areas. The organizers hope that many visitors will accept the offer and be inspired. If you would like to find out more about the artists and the individual exhibitions, you will find all the information in the well-researched flyers or on the event series website.
