Holstein Kiel is fighting for its first win: high tension in Friday's game!

There is a lot to report in Schleswig-Holstein today. October 31, 2025 not only marks the end of the holiday season, but also brings a lot of experiences for football fans and gratifying awards. The focus is, among other things, on the local club Holstein Kiel, which will play against Preußen Münster in the second Bundesliga on Friday evening. The team has big plans as they have been longing for a win since mid-September. Unfortunately, the last four games didn't go according to plan, especially the conversion of opportunities left a lot to be desired. Kick-off is at 6:30 p.m. and the fans will certainly have their fingers crossed!

A special highlight of today's news is the award given to Beate Raudies, the vice president of the state parliament and president of the synod in the Rantzau-Münsterdorf church district. She receives the Bugenhagen Medal, the Northern Church's highest award for outstanding voluntary commitment, particularly in youth work and church life. This is not only recognition for Raudies, but also a sign of how important volunteer work is today.

Traffic and weather

Due to traffic, it will be busy again in Schleswig-Holstein today, as the ADAC expects busy roads at the end of the holiday. The A7 and A1 motorways and the greater Hamburg area are particularly affected. So if you're on the road, you should be prepared for traffic jams.

The weather will be cloudy on Friday afternoon, but will remain mostly dry. In terms of temperatures, people can expect highs of 11 degrees in Bosau and 12 degrees in Itzehoe. A moderate wind from the south can also provide fresh air.

Worrying events

There was a house fire on Theodor-Heuss-Ring in Kiel this morning, but fortunately there were no injuries. The fire department was able to rescue three residents from neighboring apartments, while the cause of the fire remains unclear. The situation raises a question mark and certainly requires close investigation.

But it's not just the fire department that has its hands full today. Avian influenza requires legal measures, as compulsory stables have been imposed in several districts in Schleswig-Holstein. This has been in effect in the Stormarn district since Thursday and also in Steinburg, Segeberg and the Duchy of Lauenburg from Saturday to prevent the spread of the disease. The situation is serious and therefore requires careful monitoring and response.

To the historical Holstein region

Would you like a little background knowledge? Holstein, the historic region in the south of Schleswig-Holstein, has an eventful history. Located between the Elbe and Eider rivers, Kiel is the capital and the region derives its name from a Saxon tribe, the Holcetae. Holstein was part of the Holy Roman Empire and has an important connection to the Danish Duchy of Schleswig.

The region was founded in 1111 as the County of Holstein and became a duchy in 1474. After various political upheavals and wars, particularly the Second Schleswig War in 1864, Holstein became part of the Prussian province of Schleswig-Holstein, which regained statehood in 1946. Today, Holstein combines history and modernity and remains an exciting topic in the region. A comprehensive overview of the history can be found at Wikipedia.
