Construction site chaos in Kiel: Important closures and diversions until November!
Things get down to business in Kiel: There are currently many construction sites in the city that are affecting traffic and the mobility of citizens. There will be a variety of closures and restrictions on October 27, 2025 that both drivers and pedestrians should be aware of. As the local press reports, a whole bunch of construction sites and associated traffic conflicts are to be expected. This makes it all the more important to be informed about the various measures.
A look at the Kiel News shows that there is a complete closure on Hasseer Straße in the Hassee district until October 29th. The road is not accessible between Rendsburger Landstrasse and house number 111 because water and gas pipes are being laid here. Residents can drive to the barrier at number 117 until October 26th before they have to be rerouted.

Other closed areas include the “Am Hain” street in Hassee, where pipe-laying work will continue until the end of November. The Kuckucksweg in Kiel-Elmschenhagen will also not be passable until October 30th due to bridge replacement. Iltisstrasse in Gaarden-Ost will also remain closed until October 31st as a gas pipe is being renovated here.
In Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf, the civil engineering work on the stormwater drains in Woermannstraße cannot be ignored either, because this street will also be completely closed until the end of October. But it's not just in these parts of the city that work is being done. Work on laying the cables is continuing on Holstenstrasse in the old town and is scheduled to last until November 2nd. Fortunately, stores in this area remain accessible during the work, which is a bright spot for many customers.
More power cuts and asphalt fluctuations
The Olandwinkel in Suchsdorf will remain completely closed until November 7th as a canal expansion is taking place here. Lornsenstraße in Brunswik will be closed from October 28th to the end of November for sewer renovation, and closures are also expected on Mühlenstraße in Gaarden-Ost until January 9th, 2026.
Smaller temporary closures are also planned, for example on Weberstrasse on November 17th, where transformer replacement is taking place. The construction work on the stormwater canal in Eichhofstrasse will last until December 19, 2025 and road narrowings are also to be expected here.
Particularly noteworthy is the Alte Lübecker Chaussee, where Deutsche Bahn is working on the railway bridges. Here traffic is alternately regulated by traffic lights to ensure the safety of road users. If vehicles are too high, a digital height control ensures that they are warned in good time and sent back.
The city has put together a whole package of work aimed at implementing important infrastructure projects. A memorable aspect is that the Westring between Gutenbergstrasse and Olshausenstrasse will see roadway renovation starting in July 2025 and expected to last until June 2027. So a lot of patience is required here.
The coming weeks will show how the people of Cologne deal with these challenges. The city administration and the transport companies ask all citizens to understand the inconvenience caused by the construction work. Ultimately, these measures make a significant contribution to improving the infrastructure and increasing the quality of life in Kiel.
