Political cabaret in Kiel: chaos, gender debate and castle sales!
A special kind of political cabaret performance took place in the Kiel council meeting. Under relaxed conditions, the council members transformed the meeting room into a stage for humorous but also thoughtful contributions. Ove Schröter from the satirical party The party used the forum for his very own proposal: the sale of Kiel Castle for just two euros. As if that wasn't excitement enough, he opened his statement with a casual anecdote about the moon and brought up the suggestion of an ad-free fireworks display. But despite his creative ideas, his applications were not received and rejected kn online reported.
Council member Ansgar Stalder from the grassroots was also granted a prominent appearance. He called for a resolution on equal rights for men and women, which is actually considered a general consensus. However, complications arose from an additional proposal from Fabian Voß from the AfD, which postulated the existence of only two genders. This led to a brief adjournment of the meeting and ultimately the application was rejected as it did not fall within the jurisdiction of the local level.
The new schedule of meetings
Council meetings often extend beyond the scheduled time frames; new measures were discussed to counteract this. In the future, the meetings should end at 10 p.m. at the latest, which encourages the political groups to plan their speeches better. The political groups are allowed to request two ten-minute speeches per meeting, while non-attached members are limited to just three minutes.
Another item on the agenda was the vote to prevent rising costs for daycare and school meals. But both the SPD and the Greens failed in their efforts to organize a majority - for the second time in this session. A member of the SPD was also not at his place at the crucial time, but had disappeared into the hallway.
Women in local politics
In a broader context, the challenges faced by women in local politics are also concerning. Sexist comments and attempts at intimidation have also increasingly led to the isolation of women in political office in Kiel. Political engagement often becomes a balancing act, as many women are excluded from the game. This is demonstrated by the devastating finding that women are severely underrepresented in these areas. In contrast, there is a series of events aimed at women who want to get involved in party politics, as shown on the website Federal Agency for Civic Education is to be read.
The central themes of the series include experiences with misogynistic rhetoric and a professional approach to communication. Initiators from different political spectrums want to offer strength and support in dealing with such challenges. The next event is already being planned, with a focus on digital civil courage and argumentation training against anti-feminism.
