Lübeck's streets are on the upswing: 68 million euros planned for renovations!

There is a lot of movement on the streets in Lübeck: work is currently underway to modernize the infrastructure and improve the quality of life of the citizens. How HL Live reported, a comprehensive investigation of all Lübeck streets was carried out in 2018. This renovation concept has led to a noticeable improvement in the condition of the roads, even though there is still a backlog of over 100 million euros on the list.

The last condition assessment of the roads took place in 2023 with a special measuring vehicle. The positive result: the deterioration of the streets could be stopped. While the condition of the main roads has not worsened in the last five years, the secondary roads show slight improvements. Nevertheless, the backlog of maintenance needs is around 68 million euros for the reserved road network and 35 million euros for the secondary road network.

Planned renovations and measures

In this context, numerous renovation projects are planned. From 2027 onwards, around 12 million euros will be invested in road maintenance every year. However, only urgent security measures are planned for 2026 due to budget problems. The planned work includes essential measures in places such as Ziegelteller, Buntekuhweg, Bei der Lohmühle, Fackenburger Allee and Stockelsdorfer Straße.

As the city of Lübeck reports, the roadway maintenance strategy will continue in accordance with the master plan until the end of 2025. A total of seven streets are now on the list for fundamental renovation and even 41 streets are being repaired using the DSK process, which promises an environmentally friendly and low-noise renovation. Lübeck.de has prepared the most important details.

A look at the current projects

Despite the challenges, those responsible see light at the end of the tunnel. The planned renovation projects include:

  • Geniner Straße: Umgestaltung ab 15. April, 620 Meter zwischen Siemensstraße und Hinter den Kirschkaten.
  • Schwartauer Allee/Schwartauer Landstraße: Ausbau vom 22. April bis 26. Juli, 2.100 Meter zwischen Lohmühle und Memelstraße.
  • Buurdieksstraße/Wischhofweg: Grundhafte Erneuerung ab Anfang Mai in 4 Bauabschnitten unter Vollsperrung.
  • Grüner Weg: Erneuerung von Juni bis November, 950 Meter zwischen Rabenstraße und Am Waldsaum.
  • Absalonshorster Weg: Sanierung vom 15. bis 26. April 2024 unter Vollsperrung.
  • Schnitterweg: Grundhafte Instandsetzung zwischen Kornweg und Buurdiekstraße.
  • Weberkoppel: Sanierung ab 4. Quartal 2024, Trennung von Schmutz- und Regenwasserkanalisation.

These measures are being carried out in close coordination with the road traffic authority, Lübeck city traffic and the police in order to keep any restrictions during construction work as low as possible.

Progress in urban greenery and transport

The city of Lübeck is also considering the renovation of sidewalks as part of broadband expansion. Particular attention will also be paid to the planned renovation of the pedestrian and cycle path on the Canal Trave from autumn 2024. When it comes to bridges, the western half of the station bridge is due to be completed, with a traffic diversion from April 19th and a release in autumn 2024. The city ditch bridge will not be neglected either: the deep foundation work has been completed, steel construction will start in June with a release also in autumn 2024.
