Black zero in danger: Travemünder Woche is fighting for 100,000 euros!

When the Travemünde Week (TW) starts its 136th round on July 18th, a tried and tested event will come true in Lübeck. This year, 770 sailors from 11 nations are registered on 350 boats. But unfortunately the results look less rosy than in previous years: there are no mass classes and the number of participants and boats has decreased. TW boss Frank Schärffe assumes that missing registration fees amount to around 100,000 euros, which poses several challenges for the organization. ln-online.de reports that ...

In order to increase finances, various savings measures were decided. This means that the green beach is not used, which means a saving of around 40,000 euros. In addition, the number of regatta courses will be reduced from 9 to 4, which will also result in fewer starting ships and fewer security personnel. Despite these measures, the city of Lübeck can count on the support of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, which provides around 150,000 euros annually. The city itself has also promised funding of around 300,000 euros.

Artistic diversity under the banner of TW

A highlight that enriches the Travemünde Week is the maritime art presentation in the glass cruise terminal at Ostpreußenkai. Daily workshops and numerous program highlights invite visitors to be inspired by the works of art. The participating artists from the region dedicate themselves to themes such as the sea, ships and sailing, creating a special atmosphere during the event. The Drei-König gallery, which brings selected works by Salvador Dali to Travemünde, attracts particular attention. travemuender-woche.com informs that…

The TW not only offers sporting competitions such as the International German Formula Kiter Championship or the 49er European Sprint Championship, but also additional program items. On July 19th and 23rd, the first stand-up paddling race and the Volksbank Rotspon Cup are on the program, where there will be a duel between the mayors of Lübeck and Kiel. A total of 22 competitions are planned, including 11 title fights, which make up the sporting focus of the week.

Support for art and culture

Financing cultural experiences is not only important at Travemünde Week, but is a central issue throughout Germany. According to deutsches-ehrenamt.de, the federal government contributes around two billion euros, around 17% of the total expenditure in the area of art and culture. These are grants that support not only local but also international projects.

Art and culture not only contribute to the quality of life in communities, but also have economic importance. Artists and cultural institutions benefit from funding at different levels. The spectrum ranges from regional projects to large national projects. Funding is therefore an important pillar that will ultimately ensure the success of the Travemünde Week.
