Hope for Neumünster: Observatory could reopen in 2024!
What is happening in Neumünster? The city is currently active on several construction sites, and not just in the area of road construction. An important project is imminent: the largest observatory in Schleswig-Holstein will soon be brought back to life. After its closure in September 2022 due to fire protection deficiencies, construction work on the observatory could start as early as January 2024. This was announced by the observatory director Marco Ludwig, who also reported increasing visitor numbers and a growing interest in celestial phenomena. The tenders for the necessary work are already available, and the adult education center (VHS) hopes to award the contracts this year, as lomazoma.com reports.
The people of Neumünster can look forward to the comeback of the observatory, which attracted around 1,500 visitors a year before it was closed. However, a bill of quantities must first be drawn up before work can begin. In the meantime there is also chaos on the streets: construction sites on Bahnhofstrasse and Am Teich street have been delayed by two weeks, which, in addition to the traffic jam problems on the important transport connection, is making people impatient. Discovered unlisted underground pipes have complicated the work and is expected to be completed by November 14th.
Martial artists in top shape
Neumünster kickboxers Sarah Otten and Frieda Petersen also provide positive news. The two women won a total of six medals at the World Championships in Wales. Otten, who successfully defended her title, bagged five gold medals, while Petersen won a silver medal. Both athletes train intensively; Otten is also an officer in the federal police. Their success shows that hard work pays off.
Blue light day attracts numerous visitors
Another highlight in Neumünster was the recent Blue Light Day, which attracted thousands of visitors. There, various emergency services presented their work and offered exciting insights into their activities. The next Blue Light Day will take place in 2027 as the event takes a break in 2026, according to the information. In addition to these positive developments, Kieler Straße No. 427 in Neumünster will be closed to car traffic from today as sewer connection work is being carried out there. These should be completed by Friday.
What awaits us in the future? The work on the observatory and the road projects show that Neumünster is facing turbulent times. What is certain is that both the observatory and the fighters' sporting successes will attract more visitors and audiences. There is great anticipation and the city remains an exciting place for young and old.
