Something is happening in Wasbek, a small town in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district! Since the grocery store closed at the end of 2019, there is no longer any direct shopping opportunity for the approximately 2,000 residents in the town. This should finally change. The discount chain Net is planning to build a new supermarket on the B430 and the district road to Ehndorf. The local council has already launched a development plan and the anticipation is palpable.
The property on which the Netto supermarket is to be built covers an impressive 5,000 square meters. It was previously an asparagus field and a flower meadow. In the future, the supermarket will offer a sales area of 799 square meters, which will serve to circumvent the approval of the Neumünster regional center. The original plan called for the market to open by the end of 2026, but uncertainty over the timeline continues.
The challenges
A major reason for the delays is the major construction site on the B430, which is due to be completed from autumn 2026. The renovation of the federal highway between the A7 junction Neumünster-Mitte and the B77 near Hohenwestedt means a complete closure of around 20 kilometers, which is expected to last two and a half to three years. Mayor Michael Hollerbuhl has already expressed his doubts that construction can be expected next year.
The plan aims to improve shopping opportunities for the residents of Wasbek and to make everyday life easier for the citizens.
