Husum table tennis is booming: women's team takes off!
The table tennis department of the Husum sports club, which emerged from the former Husum sports association e.V., has developed rapidly since the clubs merged in 2022. Loud shz.de The hall of the Klaus Groth School, where training takes place on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., is very busy. The department now has 8 teams playing league games, which represents a significant increase compared to the previous 2 to 3 teams.
A particular source of pride is the club's newly founded women's team, which is competing in the competition for the first time in 30 years. On September 15, 2025, the team celebrated an important success by picking up an away point at TTC Jardelund. After the game there was a social gathering with the opponent, which further promoted the community spirit.
A vibrant community
The department around coach Jan Aufderbeck has not only set itself the goal of winning. Rather, promoting respectful interaction and creating an open community is a central concern. The club has various training partners of different skill levels and even provides a modern ball robot sportinhusum.de reported. HSV 1875 e.V. is currently looking for reinforcements for the women's team in order to recruit even more players.
With an age group ranging from 5 to 90 years old, the table tennis section is a place where young and old can come together. A wide variety of offers, including for an informal style of play, invite you to simply enjoy the sport. The measures taken in recent years have not only increased membership numbers, but have also helped to get more people moving and strengthen sporting cooperation.
Across national borders
But the enthusiasm for table tennis does not end at the borders of Husum. A notable project that promotes cross-border community is “Ping Pong Revolution: Bringing Parks to Life, Connecting Communities.” This project brings together young people from Anklam and Szczecin to renovate table tennis tables in city parks and hold mini-tournaments, such as nordkurier.de reported.
The participants planned regular activities with around 15 young people from TTSV Anklam to promote healthy lifestyles and strengthen social contacts. The next event will take place on September 27th in Anklam, where outdoor tables, mini tables and even competitions against table tennis robots are on the program. The project runs until the end of 2025 and shows how sport can cross national borders and connect communities.
The developments in both the Husum sports club and the cross-border project show the potential that community sports and active encounters offer. And so we can only hope that the enthusiasm for table tennis will continue to grow in the coming years - for players, spectators and for the entire region.
