Hohenwestedt crowns itself with a 1-0 cup win against Eckernförde!

The long wait is over: In the replay for the district cup of the Rendsburg/Eckernförde district on June 28, 2025, the MTSV Hohenwestedt win 1-0 against Eckernförder SV (ESV). The exciting encounter took place in front of 450 spectators at the Wilhelmshöh sports field and offered plenty of thrills.

Although ESV had more of the game and was able to create some good chances, it was ultimately Hohenwestedt's Kjell Knaak who scored the decisive goal in the 75th minute - on an assist from Fabian Engbrecht. MTSV goalkeeper Mats Hinrichs also proved to be the hero of the day by saving a penalty from Leon Apitz in the 41st minute. This parade was a milestone in the game and made a decisive contribution to Hohenwestedter's victory.

A conciliatory conclusion

For MTSV captain Henrik Schnott and coach Sebastian Barth, the cup victory was a conciliatory end to the season. Barth, who has been through a lot this season, celebrated the victory with his team. However, the next challenge is on July 13th, when the Hohenwestedters meet the regional league relegated SV Todesfelde in the round of 16 of the SHFV state cup, where they have home advantage.

A look at the ESV

In the meantime, there are also personnel changes in the team: After 34 missions, Johann Schneekloth is leaving the ESV to spend more time with his family. The ESV can also hope for newcomers like Julien Huber, who previously played 140 games in higher leagues. The 19-year-old goalkeeper Till Suhr is also moving from Holstein Kiel to ESV and is expected to further strengthen the defense.

But there are not only changes on the pitch; Paul Sachse was hired as the new individual coach to further develop the players. Long-term goals are in sight and the club is doing good business to be ready for the new season.

Although the disappointment after the cup game is still noticeable, the ESV still has hope of a successful return to the top league. Even if the path there is paved with challenges, one thing is certain: anything is possible in football - and the next opportunity is already waiting.
