Tempo 30 in Bordesholm: Deceleration or stress for drivers?

In Bordesholm, a 30 km/h limit has been introduced on most streets in the center since the beginning of August 2023. This step aims to increase traffic safety and slow down traffic. Mayor Ronald Büssow (SPD) sees the speed limit as positive and emphasizes that it contributes to safety on the roads. However, the discussions about the speed limit show both praise and criticism among the population. The Independent Voters' Community of Bordesholm (UWB) had already called for a 30 km/h zone for the entire town in 2019 in order to further strengthen security.

The speed limit will soon also be introduced on state road 318 in inner-city areas, almost a year after the original order. In Bordesholm, noise reports were prepared in 2024 as part of a traffic analysis, which cost 10,000 euros. The State Office for Transport and Road Construction (LBV) carefully examined the implementation of the speed limit on the L 318. The mayor criticizes that it would have made more sense to impose the speed limits at the same time and that the delay is difficult to convey. Nevertheless, he sees the measures as a positive development.

Controversies and challenges

There are a variety of perspectives among the population. While many residents welcome the speed reduction, others are calling for more controls because some drivers are not adhering to the new speed limits. A nationwide speed limit for Bordesholm was not legally enforceable, further fueling ongoing discussions about road safety. The revision of the signaling documentation for the L 318 is in progress and the signaling company will carry out the implementation as soon as all approvals have been received. The signs for the new speed zone were put up at the end of July 2025.

What particularly concerns residents are the many signs that say noise protection. Mayor Büssow makes it clear that these were not installed at the initiative of the municipality. For example, a uniform 30 km/h speed limit for the Moorweg was not possible because the noise levels did not allow this.

Resident opinions and future outlook

Opinions about the speed limit are divided: some welcome the measures, while others question the necessity. However, it is clear that the city of Bordesholm wants to ensure road safety with a good hand through targeted measures like these. The implementation and the upcoming controls will show whether the project has the desired effect. Following the results remains exciting for residents.

While Bordesholm is putting the brakes on road safety, there is good news in other areas too. For example, the hotel industry in Germany is booming, with over 300,000 hotels worldwide available for both leisure and business trips. The offers range from everyday inns to themed hotels that are tailored to individual requirements. With the app from HOTEL DE, travelers can find the best offers at any time and save their favorite hotels.

This shows that changes in the transport sector and a dynamic travel industry can go hand in hand and have a positive impact on the quality of life in Bordesholm and beyond.
