Construction site chaos in Kiel: These streets are closed until July!

Things are currently going haywire in Kiel! Construction sites and road closures characterize the picture in various parts of the city. The current situation is a challenge for road users, but there are also bright spots in planning and organization. As kn-online.de reports, the current overview refers to some important construction sites that will last until after the summer holidays.

Von-der-Goltz-Allee in Kiel-Gaarden is closed until July 4th as asphalt work is being carried out. The section from Krusenotter Weg to Dorotheenstrasse remains taboo, and this too becomes a dead end. Detours are signposted accordingly so that at least you don't lose your bearings.

Extensive construction work in Kiel

Another mammoth project is taking place on Wörthstrasse in Kiel-Schreventeich, where two waste water connections are being renatured. This full closure will remain in place until July 4th, but the sidewalk will remain accessible to pedestrians. Canal construction work is also underway on Werftstrasse in Kiel-Gaarden, which should be completed by July 11th. Drivers can only turn in the direction of Ellerbek, while traffic only moves in one lane in both directions.

But it's not just in Gaarden that drivers have to be patient. In Kiel-Wellsee, the Wellseedamm will be completely closed from July 3rd to 14th while asphalting work is carried out at the junction with Edisonstrasse. The diversion via Edisonstrasse and Bunsenstrasse is also a compromise here.

Maintenance work and renovations

On July 9th there will be maintenance work in the Projensdorf Tunnel, which will require single-lane traffic in the direction of Kiel-Holtenau between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. It is advisable for all drivers to observe the speed limit of 50 km/h during this work.

Unfortunately, road users also have to accept diversions on Flensburger Straße until July 21st. The expansion of the bicycle route requires a complete closure between house numbers 10 and 20 for a certain period of time. Extensive renovation work on Hasseer Straße will cause restrictions until the end of November, with diversions via Gärtnerstraße being set up.

Long-term planning and coordination

However, the city of Kiel is not only optimizing the construction process, but also the entire traffic organization. In order to specifically coordinate the construction projects and their effects, Kiel relies on central construction site management. This was suggested, among other things, by igv.de in order to be able to react more quickly to disruptions in the flow of traffic. The aim is to significantly better coordinate the planning and implementation of mobility measures.

In addition, Deutsche Bahn has set up construction sites on the Alte Lübecker Chaussee to renew railway bridges. There are also partial closures here and the headroom has been reduced to 3.60 meters. Signs and light barriers are intended to ensure that vehicles that are too high must be turned around before entering the closed area.

Despite all the restrictions, the focus remains clearly on a safe and functioning transport infrastructure. The collaboration between the city and the transport providers will continue to ensure that Kiel remains easily accessible in the future.
