Demonstrations in Henstedt-Ulzburg: Hundreds demand a clear stance against the right!

Today, on June 21, 2025, the state party conference of the AfD Schleswig-Holstein in Henstedt-Ulzburg caused quite a stir. Loud t online and daily news Numerous protests took place against the party's right-wing extremist tendencies. In total, around 800 people took part in the demonstrations who spoke out against the AfD and its influence on the political landscape.

The first protest was launched at 7:30 a.m. at the train station. The main rally took place at the Bürgerhaus, the venue for the party conference, and attracted around 350 participants under the motto "Get up early against the right!" wanted to advocate for a colorful and diverse society. Particularly worth mentioning is the creative campaign “Walking against the Right”, which was organized by the Henstedt-Ulzburg Alliance for Democracy and Diversity and encouraged dog owners to get involved.

Protest as part of democracy

In a statement, Volker Schnurrbusch, the deputy AfD state chairman, spoke out and described the protests as an “expression of a vibrant democracy.” This shows that despite the tension between the political camps, dialogue is still important. Meanwhile, the AfD passed a resolution entitled “Protect democracy from the Office for the Protection of the Constitution,” which called for the immediate publication of a current report that the party classified as a “secure right-wing extremist effort.” This resolution passed with an overwhelming majority: 182 members voted in favor, only seven opposed, and two abstained.

One of the AfD's demands is that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution should reduce its influence on the democratic processes, which the party sees as a kind of instrumentalization. The state chairman Kurt Kleinschmidt emphasized the need for a “deep reform” and a “depoliticization” of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

Situation on site and police operation

The police were deployed with additional forces to accompany the protests and ensure that things ran smoothly. The conclusion was positive: the majority of protest participants adhered to the instructions of the assembly authorities and the police. Nevertheless, the situation led to selective road closures and traffic disruptions, especially on Beckersbergstrasse and Jahnstrasse.

The police expected a further increase in the number of participants in the coming hours, as the demonstrations were expected to last until the evening hours.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the AfD is not represented in the state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein and failed to pass the five percent hurdle in the last state election in 2022 with 4.4 percent. This development shows that the political landscape in Schleswig-Holstein is in flux and resistance to right-wing extremist tendencies is more important than ever.
