Segeberg is investing 1.34 million euros for inclusive access in the region!
In a step towards a more inclusive society, the Segeberg District Social Committee discussed several significant projects to promote inclusion on June 26th. The focus is on several inclusive construction measures that are funded under the “Inclusion on Site” project. What is particularly noteworthy is that the Segeberg district, as one of five model municipalities in Schleswig-Holstein, provides the framework for these important projects.
The planned measures include the barrier-free conversion of the indoor swimming pool in Wahlstedt as well as the barrier-free conversion of playgrounds in Kaltenkirchen and improving the accessibility of the historic gatehouse in Bad Bramstedt. The district has promised to provide a good 70,000 euros for each of these measures, resulting in a total cost of 1.34 million euros. This funding is supported not only by the cities, but also by the state of Schleswig-Holstein and the organization Aktion Mensch, which is particularly committed to creating inclusive living spaces.
The importance of inclusive playgrounds
The importance of inclusive playgrounds is highlighted by various studies. They not only offer space for children with and without disabilities to play and learn together, but also promote early acceptance of differences. According to the Human Action However, most playgrounds in Germany are not barrier-free. This often excludes children with disabilities, such as wheelchair users, from playing.
Dr. Volker Anneken from the Research Institute for Inclusion through Exercise and Sport (FIBS) emphasizes how important playing together is. Inclusive playgrounds not only promote the development of children with disabilities, but also offer companions the opportunity to exchange ideas and interact with each other. This represents an indispensable aspect of social integration.
Progress in Segeberg
The developments in Segeberg are therefore not only a local concern, but also contribute to the nationwide movement for greater accessibility and inclusion. In addition to making public facilities barrier-free, it is particularly important that playgrounds provide access for all children. Anyone interested can find information on checklists and recommendations for action for inclusive playgrounds at, for example FBI for inclusion.
Overall, the Segeberg district shows with its initiatives that there is something to be done when it comes to promoting inclusion and accessibility. The road to an inclusive society is a long one, but every step brings us closer to the goal where all children, regardless of their abilities, can play and learn together.
