Chaos on the streets: traffic jam forecast at the start of the holiday in the north!

Summer has begun and with it the most exciting time of the year for travel enthusiasts. But the anticipation of the summer holidays in Germany is accompanied by the traffic forecasts from the ADAC, which predict full streets and traffic jams. In Lower Saxony and Bremen, particularly high traffic volumes can be expected at the start of the summer holidays. The Süddeutsche expects a critical traffic situation next weekend, especially due to the closure of the Elbe tunnel in Hamburg and numerous construction sites on the A7 between Hanover and Hamburg.

Travelers arriving from Northern Europe will also put pressure on the roads. The summer holidays in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia began on the last weekend in June, which will lead to an increase in traffic towards the North and Baltic Seas. This is also confirmed by a report from Association Office, which warns of chaotic conditions at the start of the holidays. The number of construction sites on German highways currently exceeds 1,200, some with full closures, which further complicates the situation.

Traffic jams and diversions

According to ADAC, routes that are particularly prone to traffic jams are the usual main connections such as the A1 from Cologne via Hamburg, the A3 from Cologne to Passau and the A7 from Hamburg to Ulm. Given the increasing desire to travel, the ADAC advises that alternative routes should also be considered, as the diversion routes could also become tight. The volume of traffic is increased not only by holidaymakers, but also by day tourists and last-minute visitors. When commuters and vacationers meet, there could be particularly critical times that exacerbate the situation.

The expected full closures at the weekend include sections on the A3 between Nuremberg and Würzburg and on the A8 towards Munich. Anyone traveling on the motorways should therefore be prepared for delays and, if necessary, consult the ADAC traffic information. This means you can not only get the latest information about construction sites, but also information about the best time to travel.

Tips for stress-free travel

The ADAC has some practical advice to ensure that your holiday doesn't turn into a stress test on arrival. It is advisable to travel outside of the busiest times - ideally on Friday mornings or evenings and Saturday mornings or afternoons. And you can often reach your destination even more relaxed on Sundays early in the morning or late in the evening. If you can travel to and from the airport flexibly, you should take the motorway on Tuesdays or Wednesdays to avoid the traffic jams.

Proper planning before the trip is particularly important. If you find out about construction sites in advance and take regular breaks during the journey, you will contribute to your own safety and a stress-free journey. Don't forget: The emergency lane should be formed when traffic is at a standstill so that help can be provided quickly in an emergency - this can result in fines of up to 320 euros.

The last weekend in June will attract many travel enthusiasts onto the roads, and those who prepare well can enjoy their journey stress-free despite the challenging traffic situation.
