A silver VW Golf station wagon and an oncoming Suzuki off-road vehicle were involved. While the exact cause of the collision is still unclear, the Suzuki was significantly damaged: the left rear wheel tore off, the rear axle came loose and the vehicle skidded across a bike path before coming to a stop on a grass verge almost 100 meters after the impact. The VW Golf, on the other hand, turned sideways on the road, which ultimately led to a VW Polo, driven by a 23-year-old woman, crashing into the passenger side of the Golf and turning 180 degrees.

The Laichingen fire department was quickly on site and supported the rescue service in freeing the occupants. The Heroldstatt fire department closed the state road for over three hours to ensure that the injured could be cared for and the accident site could be secured.
