Biberach: Railway work means route closures and buses being deployed!
Deutsche Bahn (DB) is bringing a breath of fresh air into the infrastructure! There is currently a lot of work being done on the railway bridge between Biberach an der Riß and Ummendorf. These extensive renovation works are intended not only to make the bridge fit for the future, but also to replace the overhead line pylons. A total of five new overhead line masts will be built to ensure smooth and efficient rail traffic. Loud German railway The work is on the program in two sections.
The first section is already scheduled for the period from November 7th to 12th, 2025. During this time, the foundations for the new overhead line pylons will be constructed. This is followed by the second section, which takes place from November 28th to December 4th, 2025. This is where things get really exciting: the old masts are being torn down and the new ones are being erected. But be careful, there will be route closures between Biberach Süd and Ummendorf during this timeon November 7th from 9 p.m. to November 12th at 5 a.mas well as from November 28th at 9 p.m. to December 4th at 9 p.m. Of course, there will be a replacement bus service so that travelers are not left out in the rain.
Modern work for modern requirements
The construction work will also take place in the evenings and on weekends in order to interfere as little as possible with regular rail traffic. It should be noted that noisy work such as pile driving or demolition is carried out during the day. The DB asks residents and travelers to understand possible noise pollution and recommends passengers to find out about the current connections before departure and to plan appropriate time buffers.
However, this campaign is only part of a larger DB initiative. Work will begin on the Eifel route in the first half of 2025, where around 970 overhead line masts are to be installed between Euskirchen and Nettersheim. This work extends from January 6th to June 13th, 2025 and also brings with it some challenges, such as subsoil and explosive ordnance soundings as well as numerous piling work that takes place during the week. Here too, residents are encouraged to inform themselves in good time, for example via the portal flut-aufbau.deutschebahn.com.
Catenary pylons – what’s behind them?
But what exactly are overhead line masts? They play a crucial role for electrified trains and trolleybuses as they support the overhead lines. The standard distance between the bases in Germany is 60 to 80 meters. The construction method can be different: from guy to middle to support masts, depending on the specific loads and requirements. Wooden masts are hardly used anymore in Germany; Instead, the DB and other transport companies rely primarily on materials such as steel and reinforced concrete, which offer a longer service life. Further exciting information about the different types of fattening is available at Wikipedia.
In summary, it can be said that the DB has a lot planned in the coming months - from important construction work on bridges to the modernization of the overhead line pylons. The future of rail transport in the region will continue to blossom, even if the work will initially require some adjustments. Residents and travelers are well informed, and DB is making sure everyone is coping well with the changes. A good hand in planning is now required!
