A dramatic fire brigade incident shook Poststrasse in Uhldingen on Corpus Christi evening. At around 7 p.m. there was a devastating fire in a holiday apartment, which was caused by the explosion of a lithium-ion battery on a bicycle. Six people were injured, and a total of seven people had to be taken to nearby clinics Swabian reported.

The residents showed exemplary behavior: they not only alerted the fire department, but also helped other residents escape from the burning building. Thanks to the quick action of the Uhldingen-Mühlhofen fire department, which arrived with 30 emergency services, the fire was prevented from spreading to the upper floors. The fire brigade deployed several respiratory protection teams to quickly bring the fire under control and extinguish it. In order to locate hidden embers, parts of the facade had to be opened.

Quick help and major damage

The cooperation of the fire department with the DRK local association and the regular rescue service was crucial: They ensured that the injured were transported quickly to the clinics. Conditions for the respirator wearers were challenging and they were medically monitored due to the extreme temperatures. The damage to the building is significant and has resulted in the whole event impacting the local community.

A similar incident occurred on May 8, 2025 in Deggingen, where a bicycle battery began to smoke. An alert witness noticed the smoking battery lying in a room and threw it out the window. No one was injured in the explosion, but the Deggingen fire department had to intervene to prevent the flames from spreading to a garage SWP reported.
