Friedrichshafen capitulates: Medical campus needs new sponsorship!
At a memorable meeting of the Häfler local council, chaired by Mayor Fabian Müller, a unanimous decision was passed today that has far-reaching consequences for the Lake Constance Medicine Campus (MCB). The background to the decision is the financial situation of the city of Friedrichshafen, which can no longer afford to sponsor the MCB. Mayor Simon Blümcke, who arrived late to the meeting, made it clear that the Lake Constance district had to take responsibility. With over 20 million euros in operating cost subsidies and investments, the city will continue to contribute to ensuring operations, as Südkurier reports.
The great interest of the population was reflected in the high number of visitors in the meeting room, where people waited for the topic of MCB not only in the hall itself, but also in front of the door with chairs and a television. Those present listened spellbound as the factions of the CDU, Free Voters, Greens, SPD/Left and FDP read out a joint statement in which they honored the extraordinary achievements of the MCB employees and emphasized the importance of the support from the Lake Constance District. Simon Wolpold from the Network for Friedrichshafen parliamentary group spoke of a more stable future for the MCB and at the same time looked back on the challenges and wrong decisions of the past.
A new course for the medical campus
The Bodensee Medical Campus is a merger of the Friedrichshafen Clinic and the Tettnang Clinic and pursues the goal of comprehensive medical and nursing care for patients. Under the motto “Together for more medical excellence”, specialists, doctors, nurses and therapists work in a network that goes beyond the average standard, emergency and central care. The aim is to form cross-location and cross-departmental centers that promote close cooperation between specialists, as is also explained on the official website of the MCB Medizin Campus Bodensee.
This realignment of ownership is seen as a step in the right direction to create a broader financial basis and secure long-term operations. Ralf Döschl from the AfD parliamentary group agrees with the draft resolutions, but warns not to fall into “business as usual” at the district level. The discussions surrounding the MCB show how important it is to jointly strengthen and constantly question medical care in the region.
Finally, it is to be hoped that this decision will lead to a more stable future for the Lake Constance Medical Campus. The challenges of the past should be seen as a learning process in order to continue to meet the needs of the population.
